Hi! Been celebrating all day for the first anniversary of this blog site and I’m really happy about it. I also have a brand new review for THE AVENGERS.

Where to begin. Loki (Tom Hiddleston) returns from exile to Earth through a portal, activated by the Tesseract, a cube device with a powerful energy source. It was during his exile that he met The Other, a supreme alien being, you might say. For exchange of the Tesseract, Loki is offered an alien army sent to Earth. Samuel L. Jackson returns as Nick Fury, director for S.H.I.E.L.D. Fury gets a team assembled to stop Loki: Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Captain America (Chris Evans) Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), The Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor(Chris Hemsworth) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner).

Let me just say that this film was on point. The action was great, a good amount of fight scenes showcasing each of The Avenger’s ability. Hiddleston was pretty bad ass as Loki, his agenda on subjugating the Earth proclaiming peace, but all the while he’s very delusional…isn’t that with all bad guys? Hemsworth, as Thor, doesn’t disappoints. Thor tries his best to reason with his adoptive brother to no avail, Downey Jr. always entertaining as Stark. Johansson has evolved from the last Iron Man film, Ruffalo is an excellent as Bruce Banner, Jackson, Clark Gregg, Stellan Skarsgard, and Cobie Smulders all did well with their roles.
These guys may be super with their abilities, not just superheros in costumes, but at the same time they do have heart, showing their vulnerable spots also. Director Joss Whedon did well with the film, taking it where we, the viewer wanted to go.
All in all, this film was a 3D rollercoaster ride and I really enjoyed it and just awesome! It’s the best way to start the summer film craze. I hope you guys enjoyed it as much as I did!

Hello, more reviews coming in! This time: WRATH OF THE TITANS…

Where to begin…well Sam Worthington is back as Perseus. It’s a decade after the demigod defeated the Kraken and his uncle Hades. His wife Io (previously played by Gemma Arterton) has passed and now it’s just him and son Helius.
Zeus (Liam Neeson) once again asks for Perseus’s help as the god’s powers are fading, due to the lack of devotion from the humans. Not only that, but there are monsters from Tartarus breaking free and causing havoc, due to the crumbling walls of the underworld.
Zeus, Poseidon (Danny Huston) and Hades (Ralph Fiennes) team up to rebuild Tartarus, but Zeus and Poseidon are betrayed by Hades and the god of war, Ares (Edgar Ramirez), son of Zeus. They want to drain Zeus’s powers to revive Kronos, father of Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. Andromeda (Rosamund Pike) is back, but as a fierce warrior queen. Another demigod, Agenor (Toby Kebbell) is the son of Poseidon, which makes him and Perseus cousins. All three go on the quest to rescue Zeus and stop Kronos.
I will say this though, the special effects are pretty amazing, you see a two-headed chimera, cyclops, and a few other creatures. The acting can get abit…well I guess kinda stale, I will say that Ramirez and Pike did a pretty good job with their characters, but isn’t that what these big blockbuster films are sometimes? Basically Warner wanted a big cash cow and they got it, that’s what matters right? Seriously though, I enjoyed the ride…3D glasses and all. B+
Evening everybody. It’s been awhile since I posted a film review, but that has changed. I just saw DETACHMENT and I have a lot to say about it.

Adrien Brody is Henry Barthes, a substitute school teacher, who has some personal baggage. He’s not the only one….Christina Hendricks, William Petersen, Lucy Liu, James Caan, Tim Blake Nelson, Blythe Danner and Marica Gay Harden are going through some stuff as well.
First off, Brody’s performance was well accomplished. His portray of Barthes is genuine, not only dealing with the day-to-day life as a teacher….a substitute no less….but also caring for his grandfather. Barthes also meets a teenage prostitute by the name of Erica, wonderfully portrayed by Sami Gayle. Harden, as Principal Carol Dearden deals with the cold hard fact that this is her last year as a principal. Liu, as Dr. Parker, carrying the load as counselor to students who are either unstable or could care less about their future.(she lashes out at one student, who clearly didn’t see the big picture)….I can go on about the performances of Caan, Hendricks, and Danner, who also did a job well done.
You get to see that being a teacher is not easy work and you also see it from the student’s stand point. Look at Betty Kaye as Meredith. Meredith is a talented budding photographer and artist, yet her father chastises her, not even encouraging her. Instead, he tells her that to get a guy, she should lose some weight! Some of these parents need a book on how to raise their kids before having them.
Unfortunately the public education system sucks. The kids are not getting the education they need and that Leave No Child Behind seems like a crock of bull to me. It’s not only frustrating for the students, but for teachers and everyone involved. Tony Kaye did excellent in the directing and cinematography as well.
Detachment is a wonderfully made film. Depressing yes, but it brings the hard truth of the state of our children’s education system through the eyes of teachers, administrators, students and parents. A+
